Tourism is an important industry in Assam which brings revenue to the local economy. Tourists from all over the world come here to enjoy its rich historical background and scenic beauty. The culture of Assamese people also attracts many foreigners because of its unique way of living.

People usually visit Guwahati first before exploring other parts of Assam because it is the most accessible place in this region. The city has some entertaining spots like River Cruise on Brahmaputra, Zoo, Science Centre etc. whereas State Museum can be visited if someone wants to know more about history and culture of the state.

Jorhat is another important city of Assam which has an Airforce Base, The Jorhat Gymkhana Club and Oil India Limited. Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra is a great tourist attraction in this town which exhibits great works of art, handicrafts etc. by the famous playwright & saint Sankardeva.

Tourists can visit Kaziranga National Park and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary to enjoy the wildlife but they should take prior permission from National Park Office for this purpose.

Visitors may also visit tea gardens (the oldest one is Dibrugarh) as Assam is known all over the world for its tea. Adventure lovers can go for river rafting on the Brahmaputra River or explore waterfalls nearby.

People visiting this place should take care about their belongings because pickpockets are very common in crowded places of Assam. Women travellers should avoid travelling alone after sunset as incidents of rape are very high in this region, so it is better to keep your luggage somewhere safe and ask someone reliable to help you out.
