Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) to undergo revamping, says Minister in-charge Tourism, Paul Lyngdoh.

In a meeting held on May 4, the minister reviewed the status of the MTDC units across the state and emphasized the need to upscale the facilities for people availing of the services of these units. Renovation and introduction of new facilities such as Umiam’s Orchid Hotel, Hotel Pinewood near Ward’s Lake, and Mawkasiang will be the initial steps towards revamping the MTDC units.

Additionally, joint ventures with private players in a joint venture or PPP mode are also on the cards to increase revenue generation for the government. The tourism circuits at Sohra will be reviewed for more homestays and hotels.

There is also a proposal for a theme park from Mairang to Ranikor, which the minister believes will attract more tourists to these areas. The revamping of the MTDC units is expected to provide a boost to the tourism sector in Meghalaya.
