Cuisine of Manipur

Manipur is a culinary delight with incredible cuisines and taste. Since, it has been influenced by various cultures and traditions of India. The staple food for all Manipuris is rice along with different vegetables and lentils which are prepared in different styles to give a delectable experience to the palate of the diners.

The cuisine of Manipur is very similar to the cuisine of Assam. It includes fish, chicken, mutton etc. Some common dishes are:

Manipuri Breakfast- La Puan Sachu (a pate made from tamarind), Chana Jhola (chick pea curry), Phagu Thongba (Spicy meat ball), Shandho Khunou (a steamed mix of various vegetables) etc

Manipuri Lunch- Tikhat Kholam (Medium hot sour fish curry), Chicken Thokku, Khaman Asinba Thokpa, Leikul Sachu (Fish Cutlet) etc.

Manipuri Dinner- Taose Khao (Mashed Rice), Khunou Thokpa (Steamed mixed vegetables), Ghuisabi Pitha (Fish Cake), Lao phagu kai, Poitou and many more items.
