The Sports Minister of Meghalaya, Banteidor Lyngdoh, on Monday, instructed the authorities in the state to make arrangements for lodging, food, and sporting activities for the athletes camping in town for the upcoming Meghalaya Games of high quality.
“I have gotten reports that the housing, bath and toilets, and staying areas are not suitable for the sportspersons and athletes. The Olympic Association has organized the Meghalaya Games, and I've directed that the facilities be of high quality fit for sportsmen,” Lyngdoh added in a statement.
"The officers of the MSOA have rushed to the camp at Polo grounds to ensure that the site of stay, meals, and bathing areas are improved in order to take note of the Minister's instructions."
The Minister stepped in to end a controversy over sordid photographs of the athletes' sleeping area, clean toilet, and swimming pool at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which circulated throughout the day.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has allocated more than INR 2.2 million for the Meghalaya Games, with INR 1.2 billion having been released to the MSOA for the Games' successful organization.
