As part of the golden jubilee celebrations to commemorate the Liberation War of Bangladesh, a 25-member delegation from Bangladesh arrived in Meghalaya this Monday.

A group of 18 freedom fighters, journalists, and other professionals from across the world made up the delegation. On May 9-12, the delegation will visit with Meghalaya's CM, Governor, and other senior officials of the state government.

The group also met military officials from the Air Force, Border Security Force, and the Indian Army, who helped train Bangladesh's liberation fighters and fought shoulder to shoulder during the 1971 anti-colonial war.

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka stated on Monday that this visit will allow both the Bangladesh delegation and the Indian hosts to re-live the 1971 War while strengthening their strong people-to-people connection and bonhomie for one another.

The visit of the Bangladeshi delegation occurs at an important moment, as India pays homage to its fallen brave-hearts during Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations and Bangladesh marks its golden jubilee alike. In the coming months, the Government of India will be visited and engaged in further discussions as part of the Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav events.
