Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today laid the foundation stone for a Rs. 400-crore water supply project under Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by December 2019. He also lauded his government's effort in providing jobs to youth and asked them to come out with new ideas and strengthen their respective fields.
Sangma said the project would help provide piped water to every household in Shillong within two years. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by December 2019.
He said that challenges like drought and floods are common in this part of the country but despite that, people should take development as an opportunity.
Lauding his government's efforts towards providing jobs to youth, he said that "Youths should come out with new ideas to strengthen their respective fields".
Referring to the implementation of the PDS System in the state, Sangma said that "We have also initiated PDS system which will facilitate people without ration card".
The CM then urged the students and youth to contribute towards nation building. He then unveiled a plaque to mark the laying of foundation stone for Phase II of Shillong Water Supply Project under Public-Private Partnership, by M/s IL&FS Engineering and Construction Company Limited.

Referring to the implementation of the PDS System in the state, Sangma said that "We have also initiated PDS system which will facilitate people without ration card".
He also said that Meghalaya is one of the most peaceful states in the country with no insurgency or extremist activities.
He assured that steps will be taken to check irregularities that may happen during any financial transactions in PPP projects executed by his government.
Earlier addressing another event on 'Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal Yojana', Conrad informed that his government has initiated work on pipeline project which can envisage water supply throughout the state.
Conrad said that the project will meet water supply needs of 4 lakh households in Shillong city, besides fulfilling the requirements of all the government departments and offices over a period of time.
He informed that Rs. 400 crores have been earmarked for this ambitious project under Meghalaya Urban Water Supply Sewerage Board (MUWSSB).
