Ki Hima Umiam Festival

The Mawsynram Water Festival is the first event on the itinerary. The beautiful grasslands of Mawsynram are transformed into a fairground with stalls selling merchandise and people socializing on boats, which are lit with sparkling lights. This is an annual event rife amongst tourists. Usually taking place in March or April, the festival is a celebration of the monsoon and all that it brings with it.

Lighting the skies with fireworks and dancing into the night is what we've come to expect from a Meghalayan festival. Witness the colourful Kynrem dance performed by young boys decked up in full regalia. Watch them balance long, slender canes on their heads, contort them into figures of animals and humans, and perform acrobatics before the mesmerised audience.
