The nearest airport from Sikkim is Bagdogra Airport which is located at a distance of 200 miles. Domestic flights are available here to major cities like Delhi and Kolkata. It takes around 10 hours by road from NJP rail station to reach Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim via NH 31A – a narrow but scenic road.
Shared taxis are available from Siliguri for Gangtok and vice versa at usual rates on sharing basis. Sikkim has no railways yet, construction of the first one is underway. Buses also ply on this route to reach Gangtok. Tourists can easily avail vehicles on a hire/drive basis.
The distance from NJP station to Gangtok is around 200 miles. It takes more than 10 hours by road on a narrow scenic highway with regular bus & taxi services available on sharing basis. Foreigners can drive on their own provided they have an international drivers license and proper documents of the vehicle being used for travel.
